About
Hi! Thanks for stopping by to learn about the woman behind soles of a mom. I’m Deana, pronounced “Deee-na”, not Dee-anna. (that’s a topic for another post)
I am a self-proclaimed shoe addict, hence the blog name.
I am a mother of three, a registered dietitian, certified diabetes educator, small business owner and wife of my college sweet heart. I am a closet sewer who likes to be crafty. Gourmet cooking and a good glass of wine are my favorite things. I am a type A girl, who sometimes can become frustrated at how busy I am. I am a self-proclaimed gym goddess training for my first full marathon, this March 2011. Fitness and working out, are a necessity and part of my mental sanity. Girls night and friendships rank pretty high up in my book. I am honored to have a super set of gal pals that help me through my life’s adventures.
My goal of starting this blog is to give moms a chance to embrace all the different roles they play in their lives and celebrate each one of them. As one of my favorite girls once said…
Shoes can make all the difference~ Cinderella
Enjoy my blog!

I just found your blog, you are truely inspiring. Makes me want to get out the cook book and try something new. Or get my butt to the gym that I pay money for each month and never go!! I am wondering where it is you live in the world?
Joie
Joie- Thanks for your kind words. I hope you’ll come back to visit or subscribe to my blog. Your reaction is exactly what i hope people to get from this blog! I live in the good ol’ nutmeg state, Connecticut. Very very cold right now! You should definetly try a new recipe, try a new class at the gym. Every day is a new day!
What a fun blog! With working full time, I need a site to visit for fun ideas of how to excite my families taste buds. I love the ideas of our ever changing shoes. Hope this grows for you!
I’d love to profile you as a Follow This Mother on Runlikeamotherbook.com. Please shoot me an email at runmother at gmail dot com and we can go from there. Thanks!
Hey! I actually found your blog today via Run Like a Mother. In their post about you, you mentioned your favorite pair of shoes to be your running shoes. Might I ask what kind they are? I have recently started running and have been researching daily for good shoes, but there are just so many choices! I look forward to reading more!
Lyndy-
I have 8 pairs of running shoes myself- always in search of the perfect pair. The one thing you want to think about is what type of shoe do you need? Neutral, Stability or Motion control. This is easy to find out, http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-240-319-326-7152-0,00.html. Take the wet foot test- to see what type of arch you have. Then you’ll know if your better off with neutral, stability, or motion control. I have had awesome luck with the Saucony shoes. I have two pairs right now that I rotate between when my mileage was high during training. I need stability shoes, because I have flat feet and need support. I am an “over pronator”. My Saucony’s are the Progrid Hurricane 11. I hope that helps- good luck with your training. It’s something I never thought I could do, and now I’m kinda addicted!
Deana — Hi!!! I just want you to know that I’m really encouraged this morning reading your blog …. I am mom of four little ones …. and am training for my first full marathon — the LA marathon THIS Sunday! The forecast is for rain and I have been really stressing out about it …. and then I found your blog. And you ran in the rain. And we can’t control the weather …. and … well …. it just encouraged me. I’m SO excited (and SO nervous) for my race —
Congratulations to you! And thanks again…. you honestly don’t know how happy I was to stumble upon your blog this morning!
Bretta Hayes
Bretta- Your going to do great! The morning of the race I was so upset. I had packed rain gear- looking ahead at the forecast not really wanting to beleive that it would actually happen. But you know what- you’ve trained hard and no rain or wind will stop you. We can’t control everything so now just enjoy the moment of all your hard work. And as one person said to me at mile 25- “if this was easy everyone would be doing it!” Oh and a tip- have a tee shirt or something you can pitch if you get hot. A baseball cap is key to keep the water out of your face. Your gonna be great! Rock on! Let me know how it went! Deana
hi..found your blog after seeing you on Run like a mother blog. Well done in the marathon. I am training for a half and love reading about other moms training and managing it all. One question..where did you get that cute dress in your family pic on the beach? I love it!
sue
Hi Sue- training if definitely a challenge w/ families, husbands, jobs and our own social lives. Make sure you have a little wiggle room for lifes unexpected happenings. Thanks or the comment about the dress- it was my splurge last summer from Boden. They have similar styles this year for spring. http://www.bodenusa.com
Stop back again! And good luck w/ the half- your gonna do great!
